It will be an exciting evening for Purple & White fans. During the eighth day of the playoffs, the women of Anderlecht have to play a match against Oud-Heverlee Leuven. If the inhabitants of Brussels win the away game at 8 p.m., they will become champions.
With the victory in the classico against Standard Liège (2-0) last Friday, the ladies of RSC Anderlecht came one step closer to the national title. After two goals from Charlotte Tison and Sarah Wijnants, the team took three important points. A draw against Leuven will soon be enough to become champion again this year. “We have healthy stress. It is of course not an easy match and we also play out, which makes it extra spicy for us. We keep our spirits high,” says Anderlecht captain Laura De Neve.
Because OH Leuven still has three matches to play and Anderlecht only two, there is still a chance that Leuven will take the title. For that, the Purple & White has to lose twice and Leuven has to beat the opposition three times. The chance seems small that Leuven will win all matches. “The pressure on Leuven’s shoulders is enormous, they must not lose a single match which is in our favour,” De Neve tells BRUZZ.
With 38 points, the Brussels team of trainer Johan Walem currently continues to lead the ranking. OH Leuven, on the other hand, which is currently in second place with 30 points, has yet to play a make-up match against KRC Genk. Furthermore, the people of Leuven still have to compete against Standard during matchday 9 on May 7. Anderlecht, on the other hand, only has to play against rival Club Brugge on the same day. But tonight’s game could already be decisive for Les Mauves.
Anderlecht will also play the final of the Belgian Cup against arch-rival Standard on 14 May. It has never happened in Super League history for a team to take home both the league title and the cup. “This would prove to us that Anderlecht are still the best team in the country after so many years,” says De Neve. After a previous win against Club Brugge (4-0) it looks like Sporting is unbeatable this season.
The Anderlecht players can potentially win their fifth title in a row tonight. The match at 20:00 can be decisive.
