The Flemish Community Commission (VGC) will financially support Brussels welfare and care organizations with the purchase of sustainable means of transport, such as bicycles and electric cars. The VGC will allocate 250,000 euros for this in an initial phase.
“It is less obvious for the sector to make the transition to sustainable mobility, which is why we want to support them in this,” says board chairwoman Elke Van den Brandt (Groen). The VGC is launching a call for projects for this purpose. Welfare organizations, health care workers or care providers who come to your home can submit a request. Based on demand, the budget can still be increased.
“We want to encourage the sector to take the step towards more active and sustainable mobility and thus contribute to improving air quality and reducing CO2 emissions,” Van den Brandt adds.
Home visits by bicycle
The VGC previously awarded a subsidy to midwifery organization Wheel of Care for the purchase of new bicycles equipped for home visits.
But organizations can also apply for an investment subsidy to improve the accessibility of their building for pedestrians, wheelchair users and strollers and to set up secure bicycle sheds or parking spaces for strollers.
Subsidies are also provided so that healthcare organizations can invest in bicycles and cargo bikes that are used for services. Specialized bicycles for accompanying young children, the elderly or people with disabilities are also eligible for a subsidy.
The subsidy framework also offers the opportunity to apply for subsidies for the purchase of an electric car. To this end, organizations must be able to demonstrate the necessity of the purchase and the VGC requests prior mobility advice.
