Train traffic disrupted between Brussels and Halle due to flooding near tracks in Buizingen

Due to a flood near the train tracks in Buizingen (sub-municipality of Halle in Flemish Brabant), train traffic was disrupted between Brussels and Halle on Tuesday afternoon. Buizingen station is closed and is not served.

This is reported by the NMBS. In another district of Halle, Lembeek, some streets are closed, but there is no problem yet in the center of Halle, says mayor Marc Snoeck.

There is heavy flooding at the underpass of Buizingen station. “As a result, the station is not served,” says NMBS spokesperson Bart Crols. “The trains drive through carefully, but cannot stop there.” The fire brigade is on site to pump out the excess water.

It is not known how long the problems will last. The NMBS advises travelers who have to go to Buizingen or Halle to take a bus from De Lijn. This concerns buses 810, 153 and 154. “There is water on the road surface in Trompstraat and Blekerijstraat,” says mayor Marc Snoeck. “We have closed those streets. In Halle itself, the Zennepad and the Zenneterraces are also closed, but for the time being there are no problems in the city center. A number of residents report that they have water in their basement because the ground is completely saturated by the rain.”

The mayor does not expect any major problems in the coming hours or days: “There is still a lot of rain, but as long as it does not fall in a short time, but spread over the day, there should be no problems.”

Residents who are at risk of flooding through the public domain can collect sandbags from the city warehouse in Robert Lariellestraat.
