Security company G4S is looking for Brussels ambulances

Brussels, (Brussels Morning) – Security and surveillance company G4S is looking for paramedics to expand their team of Safety Guards. These are specifically used to provide first aid in emergency situations. More specifically, G4S is looking for people in Brussels who, among other things, are responsible for the security of the European Parliament.

The ‘Safety Guards’ are available 24/7 within a company or organisation, for example, to evacuate people from a fire and to administer first aid in any case where medical intervention is required. In addition, they also check whether all safety regulations are strictly observed, for example during work on or renovations in a building.

They are often used in places where hazardous substances are used, such as the sites of oil companies and Belgian nuclear power stations. But organisations such as the European Parliament in Brussels are also increasingly calling on these ‘Safety Guards’ , said BRUZZ.

Shortage of volunteer firefighters

In the past, G4S mainly relied on volunteer firefighters for this job. Their main occupation was G4S, but outside their working hours they were also often ready to assist their local community as volunteer firefighters. In recent years, these types of profiles have fallen at G4S, so that the company mainly targets ambulance personnel during new recruitment moments. By providing interested paramedics with the necessary fire training, G4S hopes to absorb the outflow of volunteer firefighters.

“We teach them the basic principles of how to evacuate someone from a fire and how best to act when a small fire breaks out. Moreover, we supplement their technical knowledge and teach them to carry out the necessary checks. This way we prepare them completely. for a new job as Safety Guard,” said Amaury Sauer, Contract Manager G4S at the European Parliament.

More and more women

It is noticeable that more and more women are finding their way into the profession of ‘Safety Guard’. Sixteen women are now working as ‘Safety Guards’ in the European Parliament. That is a threefold increase from two years ago.
