The municipality of Schaerbeek has obtained the permit to redevelop the Youth Park, which is part of the Josaphat Park. Among other things, a ropes course and a recreation zone for young children are provided.
Urban.brussels has issued the planning permission for the reconstruction of the Youth Park, confirms Brussels State Secretary for Urban Planning and Heritage Ans Persoons (one.brussels-Vooruit) via a press release.
The Youth Park was identified as a site with great potential for redevelopment following a study on leisure and sports opportunities in the Schaerbeek area.
That is why it was decided to revive the Youth Park with, among other things, a pump track where children and young people can rollerblade, skate, cycle or BMX. The park will also be equipped with a climbing course and a new playground for young children. Grass areas are maintained for rest and relaxation.
Heritage
“This project shows that protected heritage in a historic park and activities for families and young people can go hand in hand,” says Persoons. “With the pump track between the greenery, the climbing course and the play zone, the Youth Park will be attractive for all ages. There will be more plants and trees and the history of the site will also be given a place thanks to the reconstruction, with various references to the mythical ‘beach of Schaarbeek’.”
According to Deborah Lorenzino (Défi), Alderman of Green Spaces and Playgrounds, the Youth Park will be a new green oasis where children, young people and families can relax.
“This project aims to restore this green space to all its former glory by giving it a new identity to match its symbolic name,” it says. Lorenzino is happy with the planning permission. “In this way we can actually start this important project for the inhabitants of Schaerbeek.”
