BRUSSELS (Brussels Morning) – It has been a month since Natacha de Crombrugghe disappeared in Peru while trekking in the Colca Canyon. Her parents, Eric and Sabine, are on site to help with the search. In La Dernière Heure they thank everyone who helped to search. They also make a new call for information.

In La Dernière Heure they thank everyone who helped to search. They also make a new call for information.

For the first time since the disappearance in Peru, Natacha de Crombrugghe’s parents take the floor. First of all, they thank the many people who mobilise and work tirelessly to find Natacha: the guides, police officers and all the volunteers who help her search in Cabanaconde and in the Colca Canyon.

They also refer to Belgium, where Natasha’s friends have been looking for information. They are also grateful that the Belgian and Peruvian authorities have joined forces and admitted three investigators from Belgium.

“We would like to express our gratitude for the extraordinary work of Ambassador Mark Van de Vreken, Consul Joren Selleslaghs and Honorary Consul Javier Velarde, who have accompanied us since our arrival in Peru on 6 February. We are very moved and touched by the incredible chain of solidarity that we feel both in Belgium and Peru. So many people are with us in thoughts and prayers,” they said.

Eric and Sabine describe their daughter as an “independent, resourceful, hardworking, highly organised and a very athletic person.” She loved life, parties and her friends. “When she turned 28, she wanted to explore the world and take a break to think about what she wanted to do with her life and also to look for herself. She planned to stay in Latin America for six months.”

After three intensive weeks of group excursions and trekking, she planned to meet the locals and continue her journey alone in a more authentic way. She planned to stay somewhere to help with a humanitarian project.

Natacha de Crombrugghe left her backpack on January 24 at an inn in the village of Cabanaconde. She wanted to set out on a challenging trek from there, but has not been seen anywhere since. Her parents are not giving up on the search. Eric and Sabine are appealing to anyone who has seen Natacha since her arrival in Cabanaconde on January 23, or anyone else with information to assist in the search.
