New cheap credit for residents of Brussels who renovate a home

Brussels, (Brussels Morning)- Brussels residents can apply for a new cheap credit from 1 August to renovate their home. Together with the previously proposed resolution premiums, this should provide leverage for improving the energy performance of homes in Brussels.

Developed by the Housing Fund of the Brussels Region, the Ecoreno credit covers the financing of all kinds of work, from traditional renovation to security, to insulation and the improvement of energy performance.

“Now that energy bills are skyrocketing, households in Brussels should be able to improve the energy performance of their homes,” explains State Secretary for Housing and Equal Opportunities Nawal Ben Hamou (PS), the measure.

“However, such works are expensive and inaccessible to a large part of the population who do not have their own resources to achieve them,” she continues to tell BRUZZ “I don’t want a two-speed society where only the wealthiest live in sustainable homes.”

Lower interest rate for owner-occupiers and tenants

Depending on their income, the interest rate for owner-occupiers and tenants will be 0 to 1 percent. From January 2023, owner-landlords can also turn to the Housing Fund. They will pay an interest of 1 to 2 percent.

Alain Maron (Ecolo), Minister of Climate Transition, among others, knows that the renovation of buildings is a major challenge for the Region and wants all Brussels residents to be able to carry out the necessary insulation and renovation works to improve the comfort and energy performance of their homes.

Together with the previously proposed Resolution premiums , he sees the Ecoreno credit as an essential measure to guarantee a fair and solidarity-based energy transition for all Brussels residents.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for Ecoreno, the annual income of singles and single-parent families must not exceed EUR 61,049 to EUR 81,049, depending on the number of dependents. For other families, the ceiling is 77,699 to 97,699 euros, depending on the composition of the family.
