Bruxelles, Brussels Capital Region, Belgium - September 24, 2021: General Labour Federation of Belgium (FGTB) union national demonstration, strike, rally. Protest for not reached agreement on wages.

Brussels (Brussels Morning) A national demonstration will take place this Monday in the capital. Led by the FGTB and the CSC, the national demonstration scheduled for Monday should cause many traffic jams in the capital. Thus, the procession will start from the Gare du Nord at 11 am, and will circulate in several Brussels arteries.

At STIB, disruptions are expected due to the participation of some of the staff, and the passage of the procession. “This Monday, we anticipate disruptions on the STIB network all day, due to a national day of union action. We will keep you informed in real time from six o’clock” , indicates, in particular, the manager of Brussels public transport, on Twitter. At rail level, no disruption is expected, says SNCB.

The demonstrators intend to defend purchasing power and trade union rights. The CGSLB also supports these claims, but does not demonstrate due to the health crisis. The FGTB and the CSC are calling for structural measures to reduce household energy bills, the maintenance of automatic indexation as well as a reform of the 1996 law on wage standards.

Following the national demonstration on Monday, December 6, the Stib and De Lijn networks are forecasting disruptions to the circulation of trams, buses and subways.

Some of the staff of Stib and De Lijn will take part in the event. As a result, there will be a lack of drivers to ensure the usual pace of this public transport.

The Stib invites its travelers to take all the necessary precautions and to organize themselves accordingly as far as possible. It will open a contact center (070 / 23.20.00) from Monday at 6 AM. The information will also be shared on the website www.stib.brussels , the STIB application, the Facebook page ( facebook.com/lastib ) and the Twitter account ( @stibmivb ).

De Lijn will also share the latest information and offer alternative routes on its website www.delijn.be
