MEP elected president of Romanian political party – less than two weeks after joining it

Belgium (Brussels Morning Newspaper), An MEP has been elected President of the Romanian National Conservative Party (PNCR).

Christian Terhes became well known across the EU with his outspoken campaign against the Covid lockdown as well as his support of Ukrainian refugees.

His election, at the extraordinary National Congress held in Zalău, Romania, comes just days after he joined the party on 1 December.

The Romanian National Conservative Party is recently registered, co-founded by a great-grandson of Simion Bărnuțiu, the leader of the 1848 revolutionary movement who campaigned for the recognition and affirmation of the national and individual rights of Transylvanian Romanians.

According to a party source, the objectives of the PNCR are to “promote, defend and assert Romanian conservative, constitutional and national values, both in Romania and abroad, as well as national sovereignty, integrity and unity.”

“The principles of the PNCR are based on the Christian Democratic and national-conservative values,” he said.

He went on, “The values promoted by the PNCR are: supremacy of the Constitution, nationhood, sovereignty, Christian values, freedom, democracy, the importance of education, market economy, social justice, responsibility, patriotism, prosperity, professionalism, and competence.”

The source added, “PNCR advocates for a strong and sovereign Romania in a European Union composed of strong nations that, through cooperation and mutual respect, can ensure peace through prosperity in Europe.2

Terhes said, “I am honored to be elected President of the Romanian National Conservative Party and to contribute to the promotion and defense of the material and spiritual interests of the Romanian nation. In the face of neo-Marxist globalist attacks that want to transform the EU, from a union of sovereign states, into an empire ruled from Brussels by unelected bureaucrats, the solution is to defend national values, and this is what the PNCR will do.”

PNCR, it is said, is already in talks with political partners, both from Romania as well as Europe and across the Atlantic, to “find the best forms of collaboration to defend and promote the interests of the Romanian nation.”

The party source added, “The party will enter into a process of accelerated organization to create territorial structures to give the chance to those interested to get involved in the public life.”
