Outrage in Voeren: Mayor Huub Broers Demands Answers from De Lijn
Huub Broers, mayor of Voeren (N-VA), voices strong displeasure towards De Lijn, denouncing what he describes as a “scandalous action.” According to Broers, schoolchildren were left stranded approximately two kilometers away from the designated bus stop in the village of Sint-Martens-Voeren. Expressing his frustration, Broers states, “According to the so-called ‘negotiations’ with De Lijn, the children would be dropped off at the Railway Bridge. But the highlight? The children were not even dropped at the Railway Bridge but more than a kilometer away from it. In the middle of a field with no nearby houses. The primary school children had two options: walk home or wait for their parents who had to drive there in a hurry.”
Demanding Accountability: Mayor Broers Calls for Explanation from De Lijn
Mayor Broers demands accountability from De Lijn, emphasizing the safety and well-being of the children as a top priority. He urges the transportation company to provide a satisfactory explanation for the incident and to take measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. Broers asserts, “It is unacceptable that schoolchildren are left stranded in such a manner, far from their intended destination. De Lijn must address this issue promptly and ensure the safety and convenience of passengers, especially vulnerable groups such as schoolchildren.”
