Major Traffic Disruption Anticipated At Leonardkruispunt On May 28

On Sunday 28 May, the Agency for Roads and Traffic expects ‘serious traffic disruption’ in the vicinity of the Leonard crossroads and the eastern Brussels ring road. In order to carry out works, the Ring’s Leonard tunnel must be completely closed in both directions of travel. The agency advises motorists to avoid the area.

The works are part of the large-scale renovation of the Leonard tunnel, which started in mid-April. On Sunday 28 May, Roads and Traffic will work all day on the tunnel’s power supply. To do this, the power in the tunnel and at the Leonard cross point must be switched off: all tunnels on the Brussels ring road and the E411 and the entire Leonard cross point above ground will not receive any electrical power.

On May 28, the tunnel under the Brussels ring will be closed from 7 a.m. Anyone driving in the direction of Zaventem to Waterloo will be led via the Leonard Cross. Those driving in the other direction must follow a detour via the E411. The tunnel of the E411 will remain open during the works, but traffic will also be disrupted here due to the diversions, the agency warns.

The work is expected to be completed by Sunday evening, but if the contractor needs more time, work can continue at night and on Whit Monday. On Sunday 28 May, the running race ’20 kilometers through Brussels’ will also take place. The organization calls on people to come to Brussels by public transport as much as possible.
