The Vrije Universiteit van Brussel (VUB) and the Royal Flemish Theater (KVS) will launch a mix of scientific and artistic interventions for third-grade secondary school students on Friday. With ‘Mindblowers: Power’ they try to inspire students in the field of culture and science.
Three Brussels schools are participating in ‘Mindblowers: Power’: Imelda Institute, the Cardijnschool and the Royal Atheneum Koekelberg.
The initiative is inspired by Mindblowers, an evening where artists and scientists share the stage. In recent years the event was organized for students. Mindblowers took place on October 12 this year.
High school students
On Friday, VUB and KVS will launch for the first time an edition for secondary school students from various disciplines across the educational networks. They want to open the minds and hearts of students to art and science and involve the city and its young people more closely in their activities.
“Artists and scientists are not so different from each other.” says VUB rector Jan Danckaert. “Both have an open attitude and look for solutions to existing problems. For ways to give meaning to our existence. As an Urban Engaged University, we want to arm young people with knowledge that gives them the opportunity to develop their talents and make their dreams come true. “
“That interaction between art and science is a way to create new horizons and give students wings to take on their future role in the world.”
Support education
With the initiative, VUB and KVS also want to support education. Due to the current teacher shortage, there is often little room for additional events such as Mindblowers, it is said.
“With Mindblowers we want to draw students away from their familiar environment. To reach, change and trigger students. In dialogue with KVS, we are looking for methods to stimulate openness of mind,” says Danckaert.
