Jules de Trooz: Pedal-Powered Paradise Gets Green Light!

Urban.brussels has given the green light to Brussels Mobility for the renovation of the square at the Monument to Labor and the construction of a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge under the Jules de Trooz Bridge. This was announced by Brussels State Secretary for Urban Planning and Heritage, Ans Persoons (Vooruit.brussels).

The adjustments provide more greenery, an adapted redesign of the esplanade along the water, the creation of a stop for the water bus and a better separation between pedestrians, cyclists and cars.

“Thanks to the ambitious lowering of the quay, cyclists and pedestrians will now be able to cross safely under the De Trooz Bridge via their own bridge. And the new esplanade along the water will offer a panoramic view of the Vergotedok and the Brussels skyline.” explains Persons.

The project also integrates technical services and sanitary facilities from Brussels Mobility.

The aim is to give the canal zone a coherent appearance and to create a comfortable, safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists along the canal.

“This project fits in with our efforts to green the entire canal zone. In this way, together we create a safer and greener road in Brussels,” says Brussels Minister of Mobility Elke Van den Brandt (Green).

The amended urban development permit has now been granted. Brussels Mobility, applicant and client, can now start the works.
