Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – During the winter season, everyone loves to hug a hot water bottle to keep themselves warm. As the temperature drops, energy prices will eventually go up. You can keep the energy bills down and get the best out of everything. However, you need to understand a rubber bottle filled with hot liquid comes packed with risk.

Many people don’t understand that these bottles come packed with a timer that is the expiry date. The hot water bottle is designed to last for around three years. You must check the date of manufacturing while using it. These bottles can deteriorate over time and the material will split as well. You need to be careful and prevent yourself from having burns or injuries.

How To Check The Expiry Date Of Hot Water Bottle?

If you have purchased a hot water bottle the first thing you should check is the funnel. It features a small flower motif that is embedded on one of the sides. The daisy design will have a few numbers in the middle that signifies the manufacturing year. You must check the manufacturing date as it is not safe to use the bottle once the date is gone.

When you check the number it will have 12 petals that reflect each month of the year. You will witness some dots inside the petals to get some good knowledge. Each dot will have around four petals that signify the weeks of a particular month. When your hot water bottle has only one dot inside the first petal, it represents the first week of January. However, if you find around 13 dots in four petals it will mean the first week of April.

If your hot water bottle doesn’t have a single daisy sign you need to look for BS safety standards. This mark is recognized internationally. You will understand it is the standard mark for rubber and PVC hot water bottle. It is easy to read and looks like BS 1970:2012. However, recently this standard is updated to BS 1970:2006 and BS 1970:2011. When your hot water bottle has one of these signs it is time for you to go for an upgrade.

Remove The Cover Of Your Hot Water Bottle Before Refill

People who use hot water bottles in winter must remove all the covers from the bottle before refilling. In this way, it is easy to see the expiry date. This will ensure that hot water doesn’t spill inside the cover. You cannot risk yourself for burns or get any injuries. Another tip is not to add boiling water inside the bottle. When you use scorching liquid it can damage the seams putting the user at a bigger risk. If you get any serious burns it is best to consult a doctor immediately.

Everyone must check the manufacturing and expiry date for their benefit. You need to keep in mind that rubber bottles can perish with time. The lid sucker becomes loose with continuous use and you need to take care of the minor details. Some prominent doctors have suggested that it is very much important to know the expiry date of the bottle.

The lid sucker will eventually become loose and you not even know about it. If the rubber perishes, you get a serious burn or injury right away. Children and the elderly must remain vigilant as they are prone to having a burn. If you don’t have enough knowledge about checking the expiry date, get help from a professional salesman.
