Here is how UCLouvain wants to fight against student isolation during the blockade

Woluwe-Saint-Lambert campus

Brussels (Brussels Morning) Many actions and initiatives are being implemented this year on the Woluwe-Saint-Lambert campus, to best support the student community.

The 35,000 students of UCLouvain are taking advantage of their last days of classes before tackling their traditional blockade. A difficult period for some, and to remedy this, the Faculties and students have implemented several original initiatives. The goal is to break the isolation of students and offer them moral support.

A “blockade pack” will be distributed by Kot Santé this Friday, December 10, upon registration. They will contain recipes, sports advice, goodies and snacks, and for some, gift vouchers.

On December 18, an Advent calendar will be posted online, which will describe a series of tips and advice for the blockade. It is an initiative of the Pedagogical Development Unit of UCLouvain in Brussels Woluwe.

No longer feeling alone during the blockade

The virtual library will make a comeback this year. This is a channel on Teams that gives access to several virtual spaces: a silent study room, a relaxation room, methodological advice, question/answer sessions, and even a challenge area (with gifts to be won by completing various small challenges). A way to study at home, but in the company of other students.

Another success of last year: the sponsorship project between students will be renewed. The goal is to create pairs between the students in Bac 1 and the other years.

However, it will still be possible to work on campus, study rooms will be open every day of the week from 7:50 AM to 11 PM.

Guidance for students isolation

There are several measures to effectively tackle isolation that are generally recommended for students across the globe. The ongoing pandemic, which shows no signs of ending in the near future, has brought about new ideas for students to explore when they are facing isolation.

From developing a new hobby to interacting with friends online, students are finding new and innovative ways to tackle loneliness in a very effective way. The biggest challenge is faced by the international students, whom themselves have come up with various ideas to fight against isolation.
