Belgium, (Brussels Morning Newspaper) German Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock noted on Thursday that G7 agreed to send more weapons to Ukraine.
She pointed out that G7 leaders want to support Ukraine and help the country defend against Russian aggression, according to DW reporting.
Speaking at a press conference with her Danish counterpart Lars Løkke Rasmussen, she noted that 2022 was “anything other than a normal year” and stressed the importance of sending humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Baerbock pointed out that Russian attacks damaged infrastructure in Ukraine, which is making this winter more challenging, and added that “every delivery helps.”
Commenting on the Danish referendum in June, she noted that Danes voted in favour of scrapping the country’s opt-out from EU military operations and common defence policy, which will lead to “more EU” in security policies.
Baerbock commented on the energy crisis, stating that the bloc’s energy transition is making it “more sovereign” and adding that Denmark is one of the leaders in the transition.
Rasmussen stressed the importance of unity in Europe and called for speeding up and strengthening cooperation between Denmark and Germany.
Unity and cooperation
Baerbock noted that she discussed the jihadist regime in Afghanistan with G7 leaders, describing the authorities’ decision to ban women from education as “another step towards the Stone Age.”
“Women and girls in Afghanistan aren’t just not allowed in universities anymore, they aren’t allowed in parks, they aren’t allowed to step outside the door unveiled, they aren’t allowed to learn,” she observed.
Baerbock reminded that Afghanistan is party to the Rome Statute, under which “gender persecution may amount to a crime against humanity,” criticising the Taliban for implementing Islamic law in Afghanistan.
“Taliban policies designed to erase women from public life will have consequences for how our countries engage with the Taliban,” she warned and pointed out that the regime is destroying Afghanistan’s future by “destroying the future of girls and women.”
According to Baerbock, the Taliban are trying “to make women invisible,” but will fail because “the world is watching.”
After the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 2021, the government restricted women and girl’s access to education and women’s access to work, among other.
