First students discover study space De Post: ‘Good office chairs!’

Brussels, (Brussels Morning) – Since Wednesday you can use your laptop and school materials in a new study room in the Brussels Muntcentrum on the Anspachlaan. Student hub De Post will be open all year round, a first for student organisation Brik. The space is popular with the first visitors.

An hour after the opening, the first seats are occupied by students who want to test the new study space. At the entrance hall Marieke, who is responsible for communication for Brik, tells them that they expect a lot of people. “Tomorrow is actually the official opening, at which all parties involved will be present. Today we are already welcoming students and giving a small tour.”

The name, De Post, is derived from the headquarters of De Post, which was located in the Muntcentrum. The Hôtel des Postes et Télégraphes stood on this site before the Mint Center was built.

In the large study room, VUB student Maarten and KUL student Caroline are already sitting with their noses in the books. Maarten lives in a student flat in Brussels and has previously studied in a (temporary) study space of Brik. “I have already used their study space in Thurn & Taxis before. The location of De Post is ideal. You get here very easily. It is also very spacious and pleasant to study here.”

Caroline definitely wants to come back here during the exams, she says. “It’s different here than just studying in a library. I’d rather sit here than in the often overcrowded and loud library rooms. Ergonomically, it’s also nicer to be able to sit here on real desk chairs, something you don’t have in other study areas.”

‘Study in peace’

During the visit, BRUZZ  also encountered students who do not live or study in Brussels. In their mailbox they received a notification that the room was opening its doors today and they jumped at the chance to study in the heart of Brussels.

Nissi studies healthcare management at the UCLL in Leuven and comes to Brussels for practical reasons. “The libraries are usually full and I usually can’t concentrate there either. I live with two little sisters, so studying at home is not an option. The Post seems to be the ideal place to relax and learn at ease. You also have several restaurants and sandwich shops in the area, which is very handy.”

The Post is open from Monday to Friday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. During the block weeks, the opening hours are extended from Monday to Sunday, from 9 am to 8 pm. The study space is closed in July.
