Belgium, (Brussels Morning) This week the European Parliament is sending delegations to different nations, including India, Madeira, Navarra, Latin-America, Georgia and Bulgaria. MEPs will be in an official mission to discuss trade, financial and economic recovery, corruption among others.
Georgia
From Sunday until Thursday, a delegation of the Security and Defence Subcommittee travels to Georgia to assess the work of the EU Monitoring Mission and the possible implications of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine in the country.
MEPs will meet, among others, Georgia’s President, Prime Minister, Parliament’s Chairman and Defence Minister. They also intend to visit the Administrative Boundary Lines in Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions.
India
From Monday to Wednesday, a delegation of the International Trade Committee travels to Delhi to discuss upcoming trade and investment talks between the EU and India, which are about to restart. MEPs are also expected to discuss pending trade issues and India’s take on the EU-Indo-Pacific strategy.
Madeira
A delegation of EP‘s Committee on Transport and Tourism, led by MEP Marian-Jean Marinescu, will visit Madeira, Portugal, on 11-13 April, to take stock of outermost region’s recovery needs.
MEPs will meet the President of the Regional Government and other local authorities, business associations as well as Madeira’s transport and tourism companies to discuss the challenges faced by transport and tourism sector in dealing with COVID-19 pandemic and opportunities to recover.
They will also visit EU funded projects in Funchal Port to gather first-hand information on the scope and options EU is offering to support the development of outermost regions.
Navarra
A delegation of MEPs will be in Navarra, Spain, from Monday until Wednesday, to visit digital economy and sustainable Single Market projects, view eGovernment initiatives and consumer protection activities.
The delegation will meet representatives of Navarra Regional Government as well as umbrella organisations such as the Confederation of Industries of Navarra (CEN) and Centre for National Food Technology and Safety (CNTA).
Finally, MEPs will visit a number of local businesses that provide cutting-edge products and services varying from food packaging, to industrial monitoring and data processing.
Bulgaria
From Monday until Wednesday, a Budgetary Control Committee delegation will go to Bulgaria to inquire about allegations of corruption and misuse of public funds with a potential impact on the EU’s financial interests.
The delegation is scheduled to meet with civil society organisations, investigative journalists, as well as government officials involved in managing EU funds.
Latin-America
From Monday to Thursday, MEPs on the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly will be in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the Assembly’s 14th plenary session.
Some of the topics for discussion with their Latin American counterparts include conomic recovery, lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the geopolitical consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
