Belgium (Brussels Morning newspaper) In a resounding move, the European Parliament has given its overwhelming support to the Act in Support of Ammunition Production (ASAP), signaling a significant push to ramp up ammunition manufacturing. This decision reflects the Parliament’s commitment to bolstering the European Union’s assistance to Ukraine in its ongoing struggle against Russia’s aggression.

MEP Dominique Riquet

MEP Dominique Riquet (Parti Radical, France), a key figure in the ASAP resolution, expressed satisfaction with the Parliament’s united stance. Riquet stressed the urgency of engaging in swift negotiations with the Council to ensure the rapid implementation of this measure. The aim is to churn out a whopping one million rounds of ammunition annually, providing crucial aid to Ukraine’s defense efforts.

Nathalie Loiseau (Horizons, France), Chair of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence, underscored the importance of the Parliament’s fast-track vote on ASAP. Loiseau emphasized that producing munitions within Europe is not just a priority but an absolute necessity. The future and security of both Ukraine and the entire European Union are at stake. This prompt decision sends a strong message to President Putin, showcasing the unwavering commitment of the European Union to supporting Ukraine “no matter what” and strengthening European defense capabilities.

The Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament warmly welcomes the adoption of ASAP and eagerly anticipates a swift agreement with the Council. This act addresses the critical shortage of ammunition, missiles, and their components by boosting the EU’s production capacity. It aligns with the European Union’s ongoing support for Ukraine in its determined stance against Russia’s aggression.

The Act in Support of Ammunition Production is a vital step toward bolstering the European Union’s defense capabilities. By ramping up ammunition production, the EU aims to bridge the supply gap and ensure a reliable flow of resources to meet Ukraine’s defense needs effectively.

This initiative not only underscores the EU’s steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine but also highlights the paramount importance of European defense and security. By strengthening ammunition production within the EU, the Parliament is proactively enhancing Europe’s ability to defend itself, sending a robust signal of deterrence to any potential aggressors.

The adoption of ASAP by the European Parliament marks a significant milestone in the Union’s efforts to support Ukraine and fortify European defense capabilities. It demonstrates a united front against aggression, emphasizing the EU’s unwavering dedication to peace, stability, and the security of its member states.

The Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament remains optimistic about the upcoming negotiations with the Council and eagerly awaits the prompt implementation of the Act in Support of Ammunition Production. Through this action, the European Union solidifies its role as a staunch defender of its member states and a reliable partner to Ukraine in its pursuit of security and sovereignty.
