7 Different Types Of Dental Specialists 

There are 7 common types of dentists, each specializing in different aspects of dental implants and care. Some of the common types of dentists include:

1. General Dentist

A general dentist is a primary care provider who performs routine dental exams, cleanings, and other basic dental procedures such as fillings, extractions, and root canals. This type of dentist is a licensed dental professional who provides a wide range of preventive, diagnostic, and restorative oral health services to patients of all ages.

 General dentists are the primary care providers for dental health and work to maintain the overall health of their patient’s teeth, gums, and mouth. They may also work closely with specialists such as orthodontists, periodontists, and oral surgeons to provide comprehensive care for their patients.

2. Pediatric Dentist

Pediatric dentists specialize in the dental care of children and adolescents. They provide preventive and therapeutic dental care and oral health education for infants, children, and teenagers. These dentists are trained to diagnose, treat, and prevent oral health problems in children, including cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay. They also provide preventive care, such as cleanings, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants. Pediatric dentists work in private practice or in dental clinics that specialize in children’s dental care.

3. Orthodontist

 An orthodontist specializes in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. They use braces, aligners, and other orthodontic appliances to correct misaligned teeth, bite problems, and jaw growth abnormalities. Orthodontic treatment can improve the appearance of your smile. It can also help to improve your overall oral health. By correcting misaligned teeth and jaws, orthodontic treatment can make it easier to maintain good oral hygiene.

4. Endodontist

An endodontist specializes in diagnosing and treating problems related to the dental pulp and nerve tissue inside the tooth. They perform root canal treatments and other procedures to save damaged or infected teeth. Dentists are experts in performing root canal therapy, which involves removing damaged or infected pulp from the tooth and perform root canals.

5. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

An oral and maxillofacial surgeon is a specialist who performs surgical procedures on the mouth, jaw, and face. They perform procedures including dental implant placement, wisdom tooth extraction, corrective jaw surgery, and treatment of facial trauma. An Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is a specialized medical professional who is trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of diseases. They have expertise in both dentistry and medicine. Their practice involves a combination of surgical and non-surgical procedures.

6. Periodontist

 A periodontist specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease. They perform procedures including surgical and non-surgical treatments for periodontitis and other gum problems. A periodontist is a dental specialist who focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease.

 It is a condition that affects the gums and other tissues surrounding the teeth. Periodontists are also trained in the placement of dental implants and the treatment of oral inflammation and infections. Periodontists work closely with general dentists and other healthcare professionals. They develop comprehensive treatment plans that address the specific needs of each patient.

7. Prosthodontist

A prosthodontist specializes in the restoration and replacement of missing or damaged teeth, using prosthetic devices such as dentures, bridges, and dental implants. Prosthodontists receive additional training from a dental school beyond general dentistry. They specialize in the restoration and replacement of missing teeth and jaw structures. 

These dentists are skilled in the design, fabrication, and placement of dental prostheses such as crowns, bridges, dentures, and dental implants.
