Supermarket chain Delhaize is promising premiums for employees who switch to independent stores. A total of 40 million euros is involved, several newspapers report. The supporters of the liberal trade union ACLVB have already rejected the proposal.

The new proposal that Delhaize put forward includes a whole series of accompanying measures for the approximately 9,000 employees of the 128 stores that are franchised. They receive a premium of 1,500 euros, supplemented with 125 euros per year worked. With an average seniority of 18 years, this amounts to an average of 3,750 euros. In addition, there will be a one-off compensation of 145 euros for the loss of a sector premium.

Delhaize also wants to encourage people to take early retirement – in accordance with the legal conditions – with a premium of 10,000 euros. 800 employees would be eligible for this. Currently, you can retire from the age of 60 with 44 years of career.

The supporters of the liberal trade union ACLVB have unanimously rejected the latest proposal from the Delhaize management to end the social conflict at the supermarket chain. This is what national sector manager Wilson Wellens says. The mood of the other unions is not yet known.

In theory, the signature of one union is sufficient to approve the agreement, says Wellens, so it remains to be seen.
