Belgium, (Brussels Morning Newspaper) Last night, the halls of Parliament were abuzz with excitement and reverence as renowned political campaigner Chris Whitehouse commemorated his remarkable 40-year career in Westminster. The illustrious occasion, hosted by crossbench peer and human rights advocate Lord Alton of Liverpool, along with Labour MP Mike Kane, saw a gathering of distinguished MPs, peers, and fellow campaigners, united in celebration of Whitehouse’s remarkable achievements.

The event held particular significance as it also marked the 25th anniversary of Whitehouse Communications, the independent political communications agency founded by Chris Whitehouse. Over the past quarter-century, the agency has been a driving force behind several major campaigns, cementing its reputation as a purpose-driven organization committed to bringing about meaningful change.

Among the notable campaigns spearheaded by Whitehouse Communications was the critically acclaimed Charlie Gard Foundation campaign. This initiative focused on garnering political and media support for “Charlie’s Law” and was instrumental in raising awareness and support for children and families facing similar medical challenges.

Another groundbreaking endeavor undertaken by Whitehouse Communications was the Stand with Hong Kong Campaign. Through their relentless efforts, they established the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Hong Kong, which played a pivotal role in nurturing UK-Hong Kong relations, as acknowledged by government minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP.

Chris Whitehouse’s unwavering commitment to advocating for human rights and equality has been a driving force throughout his career. Under his leadership, Whitehouse Communications has fostered a culture of diversity and inclusivity, earning accolades for its exemplary representation and equality practices. PR Week recognized the agency as one of the top five in the UK for gender and ethnicity pay equality, as well as senior leadership representation.

Reflecting on his four-decade-long journey, Chris Whitehouse expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to numerous influential campaigns. From his early days in Westminster, driven by the desire to effect rapid change, Whitehouse has come to understand the importance of persistence and patience in achieving lasting transformation.

With a wealth of experience, Whitehouse has cemented his status as a stalwart advocate for change. His tireless work and dedication to human rights have earned him recognition as an honorary frontline protester by fellow campaigners in Hong Kong, acknowledging his instrumental role in lobbying the UK government to protect the rights of Hongkongers.
