Brussels Sees Over 1,000 Daily Journeys: Cambio’s 2023 Milestone

Car sharing system Cambio has had another record year. Last year the company carried out 380,000 journeys in Brussels, more than a thousand per day. Together with Flanders, Cambio recorded a total of more than 1 million rides for the first time, the company announced in a press release on Wednesday.

In 2022, 338,000 Cambio trips took place in Brussels. The number of users increased by 2,060 to 27,595 in 2023. Cambio also expanded its fleet from 787 to 980 cars.

According to Cambio, each shared car replaces an average of fifteen private vehicles, which would mean that thanks to the car-sharing system, 14,700 fewer cars took to the road last year. “With this result, Cambio proves that, after more than twenty years, it is still a strong and robust player in the rapidly evolving and sometimes uncertain car-sharing sector,” it said. “The growth of recent years proves that car sharing is becoming increasingly integrated into daily mobility.”

Expand offering

In the coming year, Cambio wants to strengthen its market position and further expand its offering. The company also says it wants to improve the app and its services. Cambio also wants to respond more to specific community needs, such as child seats in certain cars. In the autumn, the company wants to make it possible to learn to drive with a shared car. In addition, there will be more electric cars, with a total of 120 in Brussels by May.

Cambio was launched in Belgium in May 2002. The system works with cars that are ready day and night at fixed locations in different cities. The user pays a fixed amount per month, supplemented with an amount per use (based on duration and kilometers).
