Brussels (Brussels Morning) – The City of Brussels will create a new pathway connecting Tour & Taxis Park to Rue Dieudonné Lefèvre, providing easier access for pedestrians and cyclists. The extended route enhances mobility between neighbourhoods.

The City of Brussels will initiate an additional lane giving more comfortable access to the Tour & Taxis Pak for pedestrians and cyclists – who now maintain to go all the way around – by extending up their sites to extend the park from the Rue Dieudonné Lefèvre in the north.

How Will the Extension Benefit Pedestrians?

The entrance between the BE-HERE business centre and the postal sorting post will be extended by the Port daily between 06:00 to 19:00, offering walkers and cyclists going to and reaching from the Tivoli neighbourhood easier admission to the park and the Avenue Anna Boch.

“This agreement was much required. Tour & Taxis Park has many access roads but the linkage to the Tivoli neighbourhood was still non-existent,” declared Brussels City Councillor for Urban Planning and Public Spaces Anaïs Maes (Vooruit. Brussels).

Who Supports the Initiative for Better Mobility?

This way, smooth mobility between Laeken and the city centre will get an advancement. In the future, the temporary cycle track will be replaced by the structure of the Drève Maritime – which will be the third public route through this occurring urban neighbourhood alongside Drève du Parc and Avenue Anna Boch.

“Today, people still have to make a long diversion to enter the park even though they live right next to it,” Maes highlighted. “It took some effort and time but I am delighted to have a deal in hand today that all parties can agree on.”

What Are the Future Plans for the Temporary Cycle Track?

Now that the arrangement has been validated by both the Port and the City Council of the City of Brussels, the Public Works departments can reach to work on the undertaking of the cycle path. The works are planned for the end of this summer.

“The parents in the community have long been looking forward to a secure bicycle connection that will obtain them and their children to the school gate through T&T park,” stated Brussels City Councillor for Mobility and Public Works Bart Dhondt. “In anticipation of a final reconstruction, we will now realise this safe connection in the short term,” he contends.
