BRUSSELS (Brussels Morning) – A show about Rwanda, an exhibition on the occasion of Women’s Day, classical music by Victorina Eeckeloo, a market in Brussels and an activity for children. Everything to keep you busy this weekend.
PRESENTATION
Amelia Umuhire was born in 1991 in Kigali, Rwanda. She is a filmmaker and artist living in Berlin. First, she tells the tragic story of her father Innocent Seminega, who was murdered by Hutu extremists during the genocide in Rwanda. Her experimental short film Mugabo will then be screened. It tells the story of a young girl’s return to her native Rwanda. Umuhire explores the issue of returning to her homeland and dealing with this young girl’s past. Mugabo already won the prize for best experimental film at the Blackstar Film Festival in 2017.
The filmmaker is currently working on her first feature film and writing for German television. The performance is part of the Belgian Black History Month, which started on Wednesday.

EXHIBITION
In the context of International Women’s Day, Design Museum Brussels is organising a tour on the impact of women in the history of design, The Women of the Plastic Design Collection. It is a way for the museum to honour those women. They were at the forefront of this area of creation. Also those who have come to stand in the shadows next to their male colleagues are discussed, their stories and experiences are also told.

CLASSICAL MUSIC
Victorina Eeckeloo, a young mezzo-soprano from Brussels, returns to her hometown for a delightful recital. For this recital full of Baroque poetry, she is accompanied by two remarkable musicians: the young cellist Phyllis Bartholomeus and Bart Naessens, professor of harpsichord at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. The event is part of Bozar Next Generation, an open platform that aims to bring together young talent from different backgrounds, such as artists, young people, experts, thinkers, politicians and others.

The Coudenberg Palace has set up a game to entertain children aged 5 to 8 accompanied by an adult.
