Belgium (Brussels Morning Newspaper) The eagerly anticipated 9th edition of the Best of Portugal festival is set to captivate visitors at the Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels this weekend, on the 17th and 18th of June. The event, organized by the Confederation of Portuguese Farmers (CAP), aims to celebrate and promote the very best of what Portugal has to offer.

With over 70 stands, including 50 companies from Portugal and 10 renowned restaurants, the festival promises an immersive experience for attendees. The event showcases Portugal’s top-quality products, ranging from its acclaimed wines, olive oils, fruits, and vegetables, to exquisite honeys, cheeses, and sausages, among other delicacies from the agri-food chain.

Beyond the promotion of Portuguese products, the festival also serves as a platform for the Portuguese community in Belgium to come together, as well as for officials from the 27 European Union Member States, who are actively involved in European institutions.

Distinguished guests, including representatives from the European agri-food sector, the Portuguese government, and European institutions, will be present at the event. The Douro Intermunicipal Community, known for its stunning landscapes and rich viticulture, holds the esteemed title of Guest of Honour.

Luís Mira, Secretary General of CAP, expressed the significance of Brussels as the gateway to Europe, facilitating the smooth circulation of Portuguese products. He stated, “This event provides Portuguese companies with an opportunity to showcase the exceptional quality of their offerings while paving the way for new international ventures.”

Moreover, the Douro region, renowned for its winemaking heritage, has been designated as the European Wine City 2023. With aspirations to become a European reference in the world of wine, the Douro World Heritage site will undoubtedly captivate the attention of attendees.

The Douro Intermunicipal Community, established in 2008, is comprised of 19 municipalities, including Alijó, Armamar, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Lamego, Mesão Frio, Moimenta da Beira, Murça, Penedono, Peso da Régua, Sabrosa, Santa Marta de Penaguião, São João da Pesqueira, Sernancelhe, Tabuaço, Tarouca, Torre de Moncorvo, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, and Vila Real.

The Best of Portugal festival not only seeks to foster closer ties between Portugal and Belgium but also serves as a gateway for Portuguese agri-food sector promotion to Benelux exporters, with a particular focus on the Belgian market.

Visitors can expect a delightful cultural experience, immersing themselves in the best Portuguese products, culinary delights, and the warm hospitality that Portugal is renowned for. The Best of Portugal festival is a testament to the nation’s commitment to quality, tradition, and innovation in the agri-food industry.
