Work on tram line 44, which connects Tervuren to Montgomery, will start on Monday 21 August. The tram tracks on the Tervurenlaan will be replaced between the Vierarmenkruispunt and the terminus ‘Tervuren Station‘. The intention is that the works will be completed on March 31, 2024.
From August 21 to September 1, 2023, tram line 44 will be diverted from Madoux towards Ban-Eik via the route of tram line 39. A T-bus runs between the tram museum and Tervuren Station.
From 2 September 2023 until the end of the works, tram line 44 will be limited to the Vierarmenkruispunt and a T-bus will run between the Vierarmenkruispunt and Tervuren Station.
Five stages
The work on tram 44 will take place in five phases. During the first phase (August 21 to September 1, 2023), work will be done on the Vierarmen crossroads and the installation of the provisional rail connection. After that, the works on the Tervurenlaan/N3 between the Vierarmenkruispunt and the Brusselsesteenweg will start, and the Ravenstein stop will be reconstructed.
Subsequently, the intersection of Tervurenlaan/N3 and Oppemstraat will be tackled. In a final phase, STIB is working between Oppemstraat and terminus ‘Tervuren Station’. The concrete timing of the phases will follow later.
Temporary traffic changes
The Tervurenlaan/N3 will remain open to all road users during the works, but a number of traffic changes will be implemented.
For example, motorized traffic coming from Kraainem will not be able to enter the Brusselsesteenweg. So if you come from the Brusselsesteenweg on the Sint-Janbergsteenweg, you have to turn right.
During the first phase, cyclists traveling from Tervuren to Brussels will be diverted via a temporary bicycle crossing next to the zebra crossing with traffic lights. During the second phase, this applies to cyclists traveling from Brussels towards Tervuren.
The maximum speed in the vicinity of the construction zones will be changed to 30 km/h.
