Brussels, (Brussels Morning)- The Fund Bikes in Brussels, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation (KBS), provides almost 500,000 euros in support for the construction of a new bicycle bridge over the Vierarmenkruispunt. Money will also flow from the Fund for the construction of bicycle paths in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and Jette and seven new bicycle sheds and car parks. The KBS reported this in a press release on Tuesday, said BRUZZ.

The Werkvennootschap, which tackles major infrastructure works for the Flemish government, is working on a new bicycle bridge over the Vierarmenkruispunt as part of the ‘Working on the Ring’ plan. According to spokesperson Marijn Struyf of De Werkvennootschap, the works on that wooden bridge would start at the end of this year and take about a year. The bicycle bridge provides commuters with a smooth connection between Flanders and Brussels, which is part of the F29 Brussels-Tervuren bicycle highway.

The Bikes in Brussels Fund is now intervening for 494,802 euros, one fifth of the total for the construction of the bicycle bridge. In addition, the municipality of Molenbeek will receive 376,185 euros to build a separate bicycle path in Independence Street. Jette will receive 151,800 euros for the construction of bicycle paths on the Heilig Hartlaan in Jette.
